Minnesota Flag History & Symbolism
Minnesota became the 32nd state on May 11, 1858. The state flag has undergone several revisions over the years, with the most recent redesign adopted in 2024 — making it one of the newest state flag designs in the country. The updated flag was created through a public design process to better represent the state’s identity and move away from the previous “seal on a blue field” design.
The North Star
