Transylvania is a historical region located in central Romania, famous for its rich history, rolling hills, medieval castles, and its association with the legend of Dracula.
The Flag of Transylvania
- Design: The flag is a horizontal tricolor of blue, yellow, and red. It also includes a black eagle representing strength, a sun representing the Romanians, and a moon crescent representing the Szeklers (a Hungarian ethnic group in Transylvania).
- History: The flag and coat of arms were granted to Transylvania by Maria Theresa of Austria in 1765 when it became a Grand Principality within the Habsburg Empire.
- Current Status: While the flag of Transylvania doesn’t have official status in Romania, the coat of arms that includes the eagle is incorporated into the larger Romanian national coat of arms. You might see the Transylvanian flag used unofficially in cultural celebrations or by groups promoting Transylvanian regional identity.
