New! PMC Wagner Group Flag
The Wagner Group, officially PMC Wagner (Russian: ЧВК «Вагнер», tr. ChVK «Vagner»), is a Russian state-funded private military company (PMC) that has participated in various military conflicts worldwide. The group was founded in 2014 by Dmitry Utkin, a former Russian officer, and financier Yevgeny Prigozhin, a former close ally of Russia’s president Vladimir Putin.
The Wagner Group has been accused of human rights abuses in Syria, Libya, and Ukraine. In 2023, the United States designated the Wagner Group as a transnational criminal organization and imposed sanctions on its leaders.
The Wagner Group has played a significant role in the ongoing war in Ukraine. The group is estimated to have deployed tens of thousands of fighters to Ukraine, where they have been involved in some of the heaviest fighting. The Wagner Group has also been accused of using mercenaries and convicts in Ukraine.
The Wagner Group is a shadowy and opaque organization, and much of its operations are shrouded in secrecy. However, it is clear that the group has become a key tool for Russia in its foreign policy ambitions.
