- Red St. George’s Cross (representing England and potentially the Crusades)
- Centered six-pointed star representing the six counties of Northern Ireland
- A red hand within the star (ancient symbol of Ulster)
- Crown on top symbolizing loyalty to the British monarchy
- Use: This flag was the official flag of the Northern Ireland government from 1953 until its abolition in 1973. Today it maintains a strong presence and is used by loyalists and unionists as a symbol of Northern Ireland, as well as in some sporting events.
