Also called the “Stainless Banner,” used from May 1863 to March 1865.

Two years of war brought about a desire for Confederate National Flag is no longer resemble U.S. flag. The Confederate Battle flag had become much loved by the South and became part of the new flag. The white background was intended to show the purity of the cause of the Confederacy.

One of the first uses of this flag was to drape the coffin of southern General Stonewall Jackson who died in mid-may 1863. Due to this it was sometimes referred to as the “Jackson flag”.

We found 88 examples of the retired Old Mississippi state flag (1894-2020) in cotton boxed and forgotten in our own warehouse — made before the design was retired in 2020, with individually appliquéd stars. When they are gone there will be no more.
