New Mexico Flag History & Symbolism
New Mexico officially joined the Union as the 47th state on January 6, 1912. For over a decade following statehood, the land flew an unofficial banner until a highly targeted design contest by the Daughters of the American Revolution resulted in the iconic masterpiece officially introduced in 1925.
