The linear pattern of white 5 point stars was 2 rows of 7 stars, one row of 6 stars, two rows of 7 stars. These stars included the 13 states that seceded from the United States. Well 2 states did not formally secede and Kentucky and Tennessee have caught fire for that ever since.
