New! Peace Chinese Symbols Flag
The Chinese symbols for peace are 和 (hé) and 平 (píng). They are both composed of simpler characters with symbolic meaning.
和 (hé) is composed of the characters 口 (kǒu), meaning “mouth”, and 禾 (hé), meaning “grain”. It is thought to represent the idea of harmony and cooperation between people, like the way that grains grow together in a field.
平 (píng) is composed of the characters 土 (tǔ), meaning “earth”, and 凡 (fán), meaning “common” or “ordinary”. It is thought to represent the idea of a level or stable surface, like the earth, and suggests a state of peace and tranquility.
The combination of these two symbols, 和平 (hé píng), has been used to represent peace in Chinese culture for centuries. It is found on everything from ancient artifacts to modern currency, and is often used in greetings and farewells.
