Also the flag of Lafayette Louisiana. This is the Flag of Acandiana. Acadiana was coined in 1963 in Lafayette at KADN  

This flag was based on the French tricolors because the Acandians were based in Canada but came from France. The castle on the red area represents the Spanish Empire who assisted the Acandians. The white fluer-de-lis on the blue area represent French heritage. The golden star symbolizes the Virgin Mary, the patron saint for the Acandians.

The flag of the ethnic Acadian (Cajun) region (in Louisiana, United States) was designed in 1965 by Thomas J. Arceneaux. Arceneaux was the dean of the College of Agriculture at the University of Southwestern Louisiana, now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He derived the flag from the University seal. Arceneaux was an early leader of the Louisiana French Renaissance Movement, a movement intended to renew interest and pride in the French-Acadian heritage, language, and culture of Louisiana.

On July 5, 1974, the Louisiana State Legislature officially adopted Arceneaux’s design as the official Acadiana flag through House Concurrent Resolution 143.

It has excellent strength retention under UV exposure, and high resistance to UV fading. The colors are deep, bright, and last over time due to the aniline dye process. They have better wash-fastness and light-fastness than nylons of similar fabric construction. One inch double edge fold around flag, with four rows of stitching on the fly edge. There reinforced stitching at the top and bottom of the fly edge of the flag.
