Voluntary Army for the Independence of Siciliy – Historical Flag
The Voluntary Army for the Independence of Sicily (EVIS – Esercito Volontario per l’Indipendenza della Sicilia) was a short-lived, armed separatist movement that emerged in Sicily during the chaotic years immediately after World War II.
While the EVIS itself was a brief phenomenon, it highlights the complexities of post-WWII Italy and the depth of Sicilian desire for self-determination. Sicilian identity and regional autonomy remain topics of political debate within Italy to this day.
